Hints on topics for next ChibiOS videos

Postby RoccoMarco » Wed Oct 22, 2014 11:31 am

Hey there,
I have created a small team and we are working on videos for ChibiOS. Of course this is not official.

In a near future we would like to produce some videos on simple, cool and useful applications
(Like driving of a pc fan using a PWM and a potentiometer sampled by an ADC, or driving an rgb led using an InfraRed Remote).

Do you have some ideas on these small demos?

Of course we have to introduce a part of ChibiOS/HAL before to do this.

Ciao,
RM

Maybe you could do a video with an easy example like a blinking led, using a thread, a GTP and a VT.
This would show the 3 ways of timing events.

Also a video with the setup for chibistudio would be nice.

Using an RTOS can be intimidating so if we make the introduction easy it will bring some more people :)

Hi mobyfab,
we have already published some videos

Our idea is to create 4 playlists: CS (ChibiStudio), RT, HAL, NIL.
These videos would be a full guide for basic ChibiOS uses. But since the main target is to
bring some more people
some videos on simple, cool and useful applications could be a strategic move. In these videos there will be links to the main 4 playlists in order to avoid intimidations. So the applications I was talking about must be simplest and coolest ever

How about a short video on RTOSes and parts of them. A dead simple explanation of Semaphores Mutexes, etc

I would like to explain all the parts of ChibiOS. But most likely video aren't the right way to do this.

Imagine videos in which a voice spend time commenting code, moreover without covering all important aspects.

I thought it might be a good idea to do some practical examples using different parts of ChibiOS. For example: a good way to explain ADC and PWM could be using a Potentiometer and a LED and to make dimmering, furthermore a good way to explain SPI could be using a dot matrix with a shift reg.

An user with some electronics knowledge could think to change the potentiometer with another "signaling" tool or change the load with another that is the right one for its application.

Anyway, of course we have to explain what semaphores or mutexes are and how to use them. The problem is: what is the best example to figure it out?

Thanks jafrey for your hints.

hey there,
in the end, videos seem being not enough to explain how getting started with Chibi. So, we (our mad team) have created this website (PLAY embedded), making some more complete tutorial involving old videos and creating new. Suggestions, ideas and even collaborations are highly appreciated.
have a good day,
RM
