I did not want to indicate that the assertion is wrong. My point was that if it would be fixed then the assertion would not be there.
Anyway, I use CAN2 and I do not use CAN1 (its pins are not connected to a CAN transceiver). CAN2 works fine if both CAN1 and CAN2 are started.
Can't use CAN2 without CAN1, and filters Topic is solved

I committed a tentative fix in trunk, clock handling should be transparent to the application now. If the feedback is positive then I will back-port to previous versions too.
