Re: freescale imx5 tablet port
Hi,
Good luck with that
Probably a Cortex-A8 is well above the applicability of ChibiOS/RT as device class, it is more in the range of a Linux kernel. ChibiOS/RT is targeted to much smaller devices, for example Cortex-M based devices and is best used for embedded applications (code executed directly from the device flash memory).
Anyway, this is how I would proceed...
- Create and validate a kernel port for the Cortex-A8.
- Create an HAL layer for the iMX5.
- Integrate ChibiOS/RT with file system, networking and graphical subsystems.
- Write all the application code...
If you want to try ChibiOS better get some cheap MCU development board.

You may consider this one, it is the one I use for development: http://www.olimex.com/dev/stm32-p103.html
You will need also a JTAG, I use this one: http://www.olimex.com/dev/arm-usb-ocd.html
You may also consider an STM32VL-Discovery, search it on the web, in includes both the target and the JTAG and is very cheap, it lacks I/O ports however.
