I think alex31 is right, most likely I will buy a synology too, the specs are impressive.
And now another problem... I migrated chibios.org from my old hosting to a2hosting, the morons at the old hosting company killed the WHOLE (and fully paid) hosting instead of just letting the domain transfer, this includes backups. Result, the web site is gone.... I sent a complain but the result is not yet known.
I am recovering from old local backups and wayback machine but rebuild everything will be painful and slow.

Re: [PROBLEM] Dead PC...
I agree, Synology NAS are very versatile and plug-n-play.
If you want something more open there are free systems to turn a Linux box into a NAS like OpenMediaVault : https://www.openmediavault.org/
or FreeNAS : https://www.freenas.org/
On the hardware side, the Helios4 seemed nice : https://kobol.io/helios4/ and the Helios64 looks great but is not released yet : https://kobol.io/
I have never tried this solution because I own a Synology for some years now and it works great but next time, I will use open software.

Re: [PROBLEM] Dead PC...
Helios64 looks very nice but it is still far from production.
I am thinking to Synology DS218+ or DS718+, both support subversion and rsync. I don't really care about the multimedia capabilities.

Hi Giovanni,
I'd suggest getting an AWS S3 instance. Super cheap per month.
I use UpdraftPlus on Wordpress to backup automatically to S3.
Backup the website as frequently as you wish and setup the number of retained backups on S3 as required.

Re: [PROBLEM] Dead PC...
I simply would like to remind all of you the awesome project to share hard disks worldwide using blockchain technology: https://sia.tech/
There is huge decentralized and encrypted space available at inexpensive cost. You can also share your HDD space deciding the price by your own.
Concerning Synology NAS: I had 4 of them in these years and I decided not buy Synology any more due to the high cost and due to their policy concerning some "services" running. For instance, I remember that until a couple of years ago, I couldn't make remote backup using Rsync protocol to NAS just using my account. In fact Rsync was only available for "admin" and "backup" users. So, every single user couldn't have its own access to Rsync service to make backups and this was unacceptable.
If anyone is thinking to purchase a Synology NAS you might try to have it fully virtualized and explore it before purchasing: https://xpenology.com/forum/

Re: [PROBLEM] Dead PC...
Doh, too late I am waiting for a Synergy DS218 with 2x4GB IronWolf HDs. That rsync limitation should not affect me, I will be using it for subversion mostly. I didn't buy the one with WD HDs because they had the brilliant idea to make NAS HDs (WD RED) with SMR technology, IronWolfs are CMR for sure.
Cloud services are nice but I want to have a local copy too. BTW the ChibiOS repository is hosted on OSDN and replicated automatically on chibiforge.ort at 6pm all days so it is already reasonably safe, I will replicate it also locally on this NAS anyway.
Sadly the web site was not replicated, I trusted the backups made by my host, they just had the brilliant idea to cut me from backups (and no response yet).
I will for sure report them like you suggested in the other topic but I doubt they have any reputation left from what I am reading.
