[WARNING] SourceForge DOWN (now back up, notes inside)

Why is is not possible to download 3.0 brunch using SourceFourge?
http://sourceforge.net/projects/chibios/files/
It suggests 2.6.7 stable as latest stable version.

Sourceforge is pretty much dead right now...

I am really considering dropping SF. This one does not look bad http://cloudforge.com/, I just regret losing the bugs history.

The problem is that find git not that immediate. Github supports svn views over git repositories but it is lacking "externals" properties used by ChibiOS 3.0.

I have an account already, probably I will try to import the ChibiOS tree just to see how it looks.

Other reason to leave, probably the most important one:
http://sdtimes.com/sd-times-blog-source ... f-malware/
http://www.computerworld.com/article/29 ... tbwcw.html

They touched the bottom and started digging even deeper...

What is not immediate about git?

With SF dead (at least for now) I just wonder why having a whole history of a project on a website instead of having it distributed and easily moved around. This seems to be a problem that was solved long ago by git/hg.

If SF eventually decides to come back in the next days I might try importing the whole tickets from SF to Github as issues (there are open-source tools that do that).

Cheers,
Fabio Utzig

Issues does not look much like a bug tracker. I need, at very least, the set of fields you can see in the old tracker.

About SCM, I prefer a centralized approach for ChibiOS, moving stuff around is not particularly appealing.

And is still down... I am really worried now. I have all the releases so it is possible to reconstruct the "history" but side branches would be lost. Now I have all the new STM32L0xx code ready and cannot commit...

I think it is time to change, regardless if it comes back or not.

From latest blog post: http://sourceforge.net/blog/sourceforge ... storation/

We’ll be bringing services back online as the validation of backing data is completed, and anticipate bringing additional services online through mid-week.

Hi Giovanni,

just have a look at Sourcetree as a git frontend and managing tool. And Bitbucket as a Platform.

I have used SourceTree for some "exoteric" tasks and it is really helpful. Also git extensions does pretty much the same:

https://code.google.com/p/gitextensions/

I prefer Github over Bitbucket mostly because of the user base, but being git is still better than any other VCS.

And btw, most services seem to be available on SF now, but not SVN!
