Running Chibi in Eclispe 2019-09

Postby JanHus » Sat Nov 23, 2019 5:18 pm

1. According to documentation I should be able to use ChibiX while my IDE is Eclipse.
2. Per one of the posts here - Chibi X will run on Eclipse X , NOT on Eclipse 2019-09 - current Eclipse IDE version
3. Per X I should be able to download Chibi X and set Eclipse workspace to it.

Since it is common for software to invent its own terminology . let me phrase my request in laymen terms as best as I can.

I like to use Eclipse 2019-09 IDE to develop / debug 3rd party application written for STM32F processor.
I do not need to actually run the application , just be able to step thru it and debug it.

Which "version' of Chibi x can I safely add - as "new software" to Eclipse?
And how?

I did specify as "source " http://www.chibios.org/eclipse/chibistudio/
it took Eclipse forever , and I ended up with error saying that I am missing some Equinox reference.

I did attempt to "add new software' with "equinox" in search path and ender up with yet another missing references.

PS
I am using Eclipse to utilize EGit and so far I do not see how I could use
Chibi X directly ( as IDE) and also include git plug-in.
I'll happy to provide details / clarifications if it resolves this issue.

Cheers

Hi,

You can use http://www.chibios.org/eclipse/chibistudio_test

It works with the latest Eclipse, will be included in the next ChibiStudio.

If you want to give it a try, there is a VM ready to use here: https://osdn.net/projects/chibios/releases/71386 (you need to re-assemble the 3 pieces, it is a very large file, it includes the latest Eclipse and the new plugins, VirtualBox required).

Hi,

I cannot get to this link , getting "browser cannot get there" or
http://www.chibios.org/eclipse give me 403 error

I have to downland ALL three files , right?

How do I get on mailing list to know that "next ChibiStudio" is available ?

I hope ChibiStudio runs under Linux - Ubuntu.

I may post some more questions about ChibiOS "behaviour" when used with git clone.
That is apparently what the 3rd party application was build wiht , not with CHibiStudio. Confusing.

This is what bugs me ,

Free and Open Source RTOS for micro controllers. The OS is a complete development environment for modern MCU including a RTOS kernel, an HAL for peripherals abstraction and all the required support software. A full development environment based on Eclipse is also provided.

But it is a start,
Thanks

Hi,

That VM includes Linux Mint, an Ubuntu derivative, so yes.

You could take ChibiStudio from the VM and move it in your Ubuntu installation.

FYI
Not doing that good.
The "VM" is huge - 2GB and cannot be installed - failed "something". Will try to download it again.

OT
Can somebody explain what is the advantage of having "embedded OS" likes Chibi ?
It seems to complicate development , clutters IDE ( Eclipse ) with "projects" nobody can explain.
On top of that - there is no simple way to run Chibi as IDE .

As point of interest "Raspberry Pi " runs on flavour of Linux just fine.

Just asking, not complaining in case somebody gets wrong idea.

That is an eclipse update site, not something you can open with your browser. It is what you asked for in your first post.

About pro-cons of an RTOS, if you are asking this question then probably you don't need one :) some info are here anyway: http://www.chibios.org/dokuwiki/doku.ph ... book:start
