Re: Zip compression on a micro

Thanks very much for shining the light here. I agree that this might not be embeddable in some cases, but for this project I think 64k isn't that tall an order (the system does have a large-ish external SRAM). Be interested to hear how you implement this in the end; you've probably gathered that I'...

Re: Zip compression on a micro

The zlib library, which seems to be the basis of a lot of the compression algorithms, is freely available, and doesn't seem too difficult to use. The big problem on a micro is the requirement for a minimum 64K buffer for compression, and 32K for decompression, which is a significant demand even on t...

Re: Measuring CPU Usage

Would there be any unexpected side effects from restarting the measurement by clearing all the measurement counters to zero at some arbitrary point?

Different value to clear initial register area

This relates to the option to initialise stack areas. I hope I've correctly understood how Chibi works. When a new thread is started, the registers appear to be loaded from the stack area, so all contain the stack initialisation value. A fair number of registers are rarely used (if ever), so the sta...

Re: LWIP improvements Topic is solved

Hi, I wish to merge also the latest lwIP 2.1.2, steved, is that just a drop-in replacements or there are fixes to be applied? I've been using 2.1.2 for some time now; it just dropped in. There used to be a required mod to sockets.c to change the context of a semaphore-related call; this is no longe...

Re: Support for STM32F730 Value line MCUs Topic is solved

There was a bug in the scatter files which caused problems linking static classes (IIRC); might be a similar problem here. It's fixed in trunk, but not in the standard 19.1.3 distribution. Check os\common\startup\ARMCMx\compilers\GCC\ld\rules_Code.ld - line 38 or thereabouts should say: .text : ALIG...

Re: [RFC] Functional Safety in HAL

Meeting formal standards would be nice, but also comes with a lot of administrative overheads, and can rather perversely lead to buggy code being used for longer due to the difficulty of applying changes. I'm much more interested in apply good practical software engineering methods to making the co...

Re: LWIP improvements Topic is solved

geebee, You're right that there's a lot to be done to my code - I've been talking intentions rather than the actualite! I'm also no networking expert. You've probably deduced that currently I've just done what's needed to get my projects working. I like your suggestion for handling multicast. If it ...

Re: Debuggiing unhandled exceptions.

There are already various threads including helful debugging code. I've found these two:

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5246
viewtopic.php?f=16&t=2506

and there's a third which I haven't managed to find on a quick look.

Re: LWIP improvements Topic is solved

Just a note, HAL MAC driver is not lwIP-specific, it can be used with other stacks, putting lwIP-specific code in there is not a good idea IMHO. Understood (and agree). Specifically on multicast, IIRC much of the code is generic, with some hardware-specific. Any lwip-specific code I'd be inclined t...
